A month has passed since the previous release. It's time for a new one.
This one has only one big improvement. It's about the speed of the M3U list parsing.

Long time since no article was written here. It the meantime we had a very troublesome 0.6.x chain of releases. Version 0.6.0, last autumn, packed some new, rather important features, but also a major rewrite of the database and channel list mechanism. This was insufficiently tested, and proved to be riddled with bugs. During the following two-three weeks we had to issue no less than three other minor releases, each trying to fix the problems found in the meantime . Version 0.6.3, however, proved to be stable enough to end this stream of, more or less, failed releases.
The current release, 0.6.4, fixes some minor, yet annoying glitches, found in the meantime. Most of them are related to channel list handling.
Also this is a maintenance release for the Windows users. We brought some modules (mingw32 and friends ) up to date.

I wrote this article after a whole evening of unsuccessful attempts to properly configure Samba on my Arch laptop. No matter what I did, i could not make my shares visible on the network. Also, none of the other shared folders from the networks were visible in Dolphin or any other file manager. In the end I found out the cause. It was the lack of the Avahi daemon from the computer.

Când am început lucrul la TV-lite, scopul meu era doar să fac un program care să suplinească golul lasat în urmă de TV-Maxe. TV-Maxe a fost unul din primele programe de IPTV pe care le știu, înainte ca IPTV-ul să prindă avânt. Programul este scris de Ovidiu Nițan Prima versiune a apărut în 2010 și a fost activ dezvoltat până prin 2015. Scopul apariției sale a fost să suplinească lipsa unui player de Sopcast pe Linux. Programul folosea Python 2.7 și GTK+ 2.0. O altă dependență necesară pe Linux e GStreamer 0.10.
În 2020, multe distribuții de Linux, în frunte cu Ubuntu, au renunțat să suporte programele scrise în Python 2. Dacă Python 2, ca atare, nu a dispărut complet din repositorii, multe module necesare au dispărut. De asemenea a fost abandonat și GStreamer 0.10. Dacă până în 2020 s-au găsit metode de a instala TV-Maxe cam pe fiecare distribuție de Linux, din primăvara lui 2020 toate speranțele s-au năruit.
A fost momentul apariției lui TV-Lite.

Încă un „sprint” care a dus la o versiune nouă a programului. Am corectat niște neajunsuri care deveniseră destul de vizibile, mai ales când TV-Lite este utilizat cu liste de la „furnizori” terți. Uneori acestea sunt liste „compilate” de entuziaști, care conțin adrese publice de transmisii TV din toată lumea. Alteori pot fi chiar liste ale unor furnizori IPTV. Ambele tipuri pun anumite probleme, legate de mărimea lor, sau de anumite „chichițe” legate de conexiune.
